Velur, which comes from the French word for velvet, resembles velvet and velveteen quite a bit. Velur is easier to create and slightly less opulent than velvet because it is a pile knit fabric rather than a pile weave. Since velvet is less pliable than it is and still retains many of the prized characteristics of this sumptuous fabric, velvetur is widely used as a material for stage curtains.
